March 7th 1939 – Razani

Yesterday I am caught with the “General Alarm” at 1am, and get as far as the M.I. room on my way to the lines, in rubber boots and overcoat, before I realise what a bloody fool I am. On a gasht yesterday. 7 picquet, along 70 ridge, Gardai camp, 72 and home. It is very pleasant down by Gardai camp, having crossed the nullah. A sound of a small burn in the nullah bed, an up going convoy crossing the Khaisora, sounding like the roar of the sea. I fancy I hear a sheep bleat, and I am back in Tiree. All very pleasant. Several loose camels seen grazing behind a flock of goats.
