August 4th 1939 – Razani

The guns never open up. It was that gunner Langford, with the head like a latrine bucket, who started it. I smelt a couple of bullets on the R.P. A new system of Company areas and local gashts was tried. Tanks cooperated and it all seemed fairly successful. One man got his rifle hit on the fore end on Crocus.

I run 11/20 in the inter company mile team race. It nearly kills me. Clarke has returned from an attachment to the RAF in Peshawar. That madman P.M. Bond is there, presumably on a short service commission. Intelligence reports three killed and eight wounded on 25th, mostly during the evening sortie.
