August 25th 1939 – Razani

The two bodies brought in by Khassadars, untouched by mutilation. Four rifles lost, and eight enemy known killed, and Gagu’s brother seriously wounded. P.A., Major Bacon, says there were 400 enemy in that area that day, so we were damned lucky.

Rumour now has it that Ipi is out to get a B.O. of this regiment in revenge for Khan Gul. I don’t know about this, but I expect it will become rather dangerous round here during the next fortnight. Signs of a war in Europe. All British citizens have been ordered to leave Germany, which I reckon is a bad sign. All officers passing through Bannu, by road or rail, have to report to Bannu Brigade, so a notice in the Club says. All leave stopped, in and ex-India.
