April 6th 1940 – Pachmarhi

Saturdays are holidays, instead of Thursdays. Interesting work it is, although unfortunately I don’t know all the parrot stuff in Urdu; or English for that matter. In the afternoon I write my notes and then go and play tennis in the Club. After that a drink, come back and change, then I seem to be back there again, on the booze.

Alot of temporary soldiers on this course, and they are good chaps, although some are as old as 34, married with a family, and all on a 2nd Lt’s pay. I go to Government House the other day for tea and tennis, most enjoyable, though I do enter by the Governor’s private gate and drive, and the ADC O’Neill tells me off.
