May 31st 1942

Drinking and tennis and some occasional flying. Robin White and I beat up 56 anti-tank regiment crossing Ratu Lake and one gun sinks. A most enjoyable flip. Bill Symonds here, raising a Provost unit, and we have a party. Also guarding the airfield is one Jeffries of South Staffs, from term at Sandhurst, and a friend of Bill’s. We get alot of beer up from Calcutta, and are still drinking it after a week.

Nothing of note. I take over Mess secretary, being one of the few people capable of pulling out his finger. 17 Div on its way here, so this will be the front line soon. More talk of these Vengeances we are supposed to get, but not in the country yet.
