The rail party departs yesterday. I find repairs will take a month so wire Ranchi, suggesting I return there. Answer is yes if W/C okays it. After much telephoning I contact him in Peshawar, and he gives his assent. So I’m off tonight D.V. [JDW: God willing], though whether I will ever get through or not I don’t know, as there are floods and riots everywhere. Major Rose shot a few on his way up from Calcutta, and I believe they are stopping people from travelling singly so I may get held up somewhere.

Much tennis recently with Larsen, and we also play alot of bridge, and I bid and made a little slam which is a thing that always pleases me.
