August 15th 1942

Repeated blood slides eventually disclose BT malaria and I am very ill one evening but temperature normal next day and so on. Am now moved to ward upstairs which is full of BOs. My bill for 48 hrs (3 days) at the Staff mess in Rs 15 – a monster! Falconer and his boys got off and now I just lie in bed all day hoping to get away. One Major Hennessy of  the Baluchis turns up. He was the chap whom I, John Palmer and the Padre had to sack from being putting to bed in the Connemara, way back, (?), but I haven’t approached him about it yet. The orderlies here nearly as dumb as the Kohat lot, but more willing.
